Damien Hirst Invites You

Enjoy the artist’s personal art collection

The artist’s personal collection of over 3,000 works of art is now housed in a newly constructed Gallery in Lambeth, south London.. and is open to the public without charge.

‘I believe art should be experienced by as many people as possible,’ Hirst says,’and I’ve felt guilty owning work that is stored away in boxes where no one can see it, so having a space where I can put on shows from the collection is a dream come true.’

Hirst has been assembling this collection since the 1980s; it includes works by Francis Bacon, Banksy, Tracey Emin, Richard Hamilton, Jeff Koons, Sarah Lucas, Pablo Picasso, Richard Prince, Haim Steinbach and Gavin Turk, along with those of young and emerging artists and indigenous artists from the Pacific Northwest Coast.

His collection of natural history specimens, taxidermy, anatomical models and historical artefacts is also on view.

The construction of Newport Street Gallery involved the conversion of three listed Victorian buildings (originally theatre scenery painting studios) and the addition of two new buildings which together span half the length of Newport street.

There is a shop and a restaurant is planned.

Nearest tube station is Vauxhall.
