A schoolhouse built in 1860 for the children on an estate is one of the unique holiday rental properties offered by the Landmark Irish Trust. The restored building on the banks of the Owenmore River, is in Annaghmore, Collooney, Co Sligo.
The trust is offering special rates on this and others of its picturesque holiday properties for online bookings during September and October.
The Schoolhouse at Annaghmore sleeps four in two double bedrooms. One end of the property is a two- storey accommodation, originally the schoolmaster’s house, and the other is a double height schoolroom, now the sitting room. Some 19th Century schoolhouse furnishings survive, too, including the schoolhouse fireplace, coat hooks and chalkboards.
Local folklore says the last tenant, a reclusive bachelor, kept his money in a tin box, which has never been found. You could make a treasure hunt part of your holiday.
